Why the Circus from Cincinnati is in Super Bowl 45

Believe it or not the Bengals have been in a Super Bowl and not just one of them, but 2! Of course that was in the 80’s and since their appearance in Super Bowl 24 the bungals (no Josh that was not a spelling mistake) have pretty much been a laughing stock. In the last few years the Bengals have changed their image form losers to…criminals. With more arrests than pro-bowl selections, the Bengals have really turned some heads. But now, this is the year they put it all together.

It starts with their star quarterback Carson Palmer, who outside of Tom Terrific and number 18, has been football’s best QB in the past 5 years. Don’t forget the 2002 Heisman Trophy winner is 30 years old and is in the prime of his career. However, he knows his window is fading. Even if he pulls a Brett Favre, how many times will he have the “supporting cast” he has now.

Now I’ll explain the quotes. I’m sure Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens think there is nothing “supporting” about them. In fact, T.O. is probably mad I listed Chad first in my previous sentence. However Owens, who is 36, knows his window is about to slam shut and is going to behave himself if he wants a title. Despite all his antics T.O. is all over the record books. 3rd all time in receiving touchdowns and receiving yards. No he’s not Jerry Rice, but Owens thinks he is. But thinking your Jerry Rice without a Super Bowl ring will turn the folks from laughing with you to laughing at you.

If I said Chris Carter was in Jerry Rice’s league as a receiver I would be making a trip to Bellevue, but while in the strait jacket I would shot Carter’s name is also over the record books. This is true, but Carter doesn’t have the bling bling.

I don’t know if you know this, but Owens has caused “a little” controversy in his career. From beefs with his Quarterbacks, beefs with Coaches and that whole suicide attempt eh I mean “accidently” taking 15 sleeping pills. To date, Owens only played in one Super Bowl (Super Bowl 39) but played a game for the ages.

Even Owens critics had to respect his performance. If you recall Owens was told by doctors he was “insane” for playing with a sprained ankle and a fractured fibula. Owens said he wanted to play for jesus and jesus certainly would have been proud, as T.O. caught 9 balls for 122 yards. Owens is a big time player and will play big in big games.

As for Chad Ochocinco, a major talent since 01, has ironically somewhat been in Owens’ shadow. Ochocinco tried to outdo the palm dance and the sharpie with the list and of course his name change, but it’s always hard to be the second guy to do something.

This may shock everyone, but Ochocinco is not Ochocinco’s birth name. It’s Johnson, he changed it to Ochocinco because it’s his jersey number in Spanish, well kind of, but that’s semantics. #85 knows as legendary as Owens is, this is Chad 85’s team on the receiving end. He’s the #1; Palmer will look to him before Owens. If the circus can get a title it will be known more as Chad’s title than Owens and ironically will somewhat free him from Owens’ shadow.

Also, don’t forget about Chris Henry. #15 is going to be missed by the Bengals and I think they’ll want to win it for him.
